About Jen Joseph

JMJ Next was created to support leaders doing meaningful work in complex environments.

Before founding JMJ Next, Jen spent nearly 35 years working to improve health and advance health equity through practice-based and national public health and policy roles.

In her most recent senior leadership role at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she worked across multiple stakeholder groups to align priorities while leading teams responsible for national policy initiatives and large-scale investments. These efforts expanded the reach and impact of community health centers serving more than 34 million people nationwide, and supported greater flexibility within programs and funding structures so local organizations could better tailor care to the needs of the communities they serve.

Across her career, Jen has focused on the upstream operational and policy conditions that shape health and wellbeing for individuals and communities—how systems function, how decisions get made, and how those choices show up in real life.

In leadership roles across universities, nonprofits, and government, Jen built and led high-performing, collaborative teams in demanding environments. She is known for her steadiness under pressure and her systems thinking, along with a grounded, human way of working that helps teams make sense of complexity without getting lost in it. Colleagues often describe her as perceptive, grounded, and easy to work with—someone who brings humor and humanity into high-stakes environments.

Today, she brings this experience into her coaching and advising practice—partnering with leaders to strengthen how they think, decide, and show up in real time. Her work creates space for both reflection and action, helping leaders stay grounded, see more clearly in complex situations, and lead with greater clarity, focus, and intention.

Her coaching work is grounded in decades of leadership experience and supported by advanced training in leadership and performance coaching from Brown University School of Professional Studies and ACT Leadership, the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and Leadership Circle Profile™ 360° certification.

Her advisory work draws on deep experience in leadership, public health, and federal policy, supporting leaders as they navigate consequential decisions and organizational complexity.

She has an academic background in psychology, health education, and community health (BA, MSEd, PhD).

Outside of work, Jen enjoys running, biking, and kayaking; making pottery; volunteering in her community; and spending time with family and friends.
